Aims of the Course
In GCSE English and English Literature, we aim to develop your appreciation of language and literature and build upon the skills you already have in reading, writing, speaking and listening.  You will also be offered a rich diet of extra-curricular opportunities, from theatre trips to competitions, so that you can extend your learning outside of the classroom.

How long will the course last?
This is a two year course. You will gain two qualifications: GCSE English and GCSE English Literature.

The course consists of:
• 5 pieces of written coursework
• A wide range of speaking and listening activities
• 3 examinations 

GCSE English
In English you will be given the opportunity to respond critically to fiction and non-fiction, to explore media texts, to write for different audiences and purposes, and consequently, to develop your powers of written communication. By taking part in Speaking and Listening activities, you will develop your ability in oral communication, an important aspect of your English Language course.

GCSE English Literature
English Literature seeks to develop good reading habits and requires you to explore a wide variety of texts, novels, plays and poetry from a range of cultures and contexts. You will be assessed on your ability to respond to and appreciate Literature. The course encourages you to read widely and will provide a range of literary experiences for you to enjoy.
